There's nothing like a chilly Sunday to make you rethink what's actually worth carrying around in your bag. I've swapped out the sunnies and iced coffee for the stuff that's actually getting me through winter and yep, my nails are still doing the talking even when everything else is layered up in knits. Winter handbags get heavy fast, so I've spent the last few weeks figuring out exactly what earns a permanent spot in mine. Here are my top 10.
1. Sunday Nails Semi-Cured Nail Stickers
Non-negotiable, obviously. Winter is chaos uni, work, coffee dates, Sunday errands and my nails need to keep up without me sitting through a two-hour salon appointment in the cold. I always keep a spare set of Sunday Nails semi-cured stickers in my bag for when a nail chips or I just fancy a change before a night out. Two minutes, no drying time, salon finish, zero fuss. Bag essential, no debate.
2. CBD Oil
Winter aches hit different tense shoulders from hunching over my phone in the cold, that heavy "I've done too much" feeling by Sunday evening. I've started carrying a small bottle of CBD oil from CBD Oil Australia for exactly those moments. A few drops under the tongue on the train home and I actually feel human again by the time I'm back on the couch or even their CBD Gummies are amazing!
3. Hair Bonnet
Winter hair is a whole personality of its own static, frizz, flat spots from beanies. My Oz Durag hair bonnet lives permanently in my bag now. Whether I'm throwing it on before a nap, protecting a fresh blowout from beanie-hair, or just need my hair out of my face while I do my nails, it's earned its spot on this list.
4. A Good Lip Gloss
Because winter lips need love too. I keep a tinted, slightly hydrating gloss on hand for that quick "actually I do have my life together" look before I walk into work or meet the girls for coffee. Bonus points if it smells like vanilla and doesn't leave my lips drier than before I applied it.
5. Hand Cream (the unsung hero)
Can't be out here rocking a fresh set of Sunday Nails with dry, cracked knuckles the manicure deserves better. A rich hand cream is the last thing I toss in before I leave the house, and honestly the first thing I reach for the second the cold hits my hands on the walk to the car.
6. A Mini Perfume Rollerball
Full-size bottles are a hard no for handbag life, but a little rollerball or travel spray means I can freshen up after the gym, before a date, or just because I want to. Small enough to disappear into a side pocket, big enough to make a difference.
7. Portable Phone Charger
Nothing ruins a Sunday like a dead phone when you're trying to film your nails in good light for the 'gram. A small power bank means I'm never stuck choosing between navigation, texting back, and actually documenting the fit.
8. A Mini Umbrella
Melbourne and Sydney winters do not play fair. A compact umbrella that folds down small enough to not take over my whole bag has saved both my hair and my nail art more times than I can count.
9. Mints or Chewy Gum
Small, unglamorous, completely essential. Coffee breath meets cold weather is not a combination anyone needs mid-conversation, and a little tin of mints takes up zero real estate.
10. A Heat Pack or Hand Warmer
The most underrated addition to my bag this year. Waiting at the bus stop or walking between errands in the cold is a lot more bearable with a little heat pack tucked in my pocket and warm hands mean I'm not tempted to shove them somewhere and risk chipping a fresh set.
That's what's weighing my bag down this winter a little bit of self-care, a little bit of practicality, and of course, nails that never quit no matter what the weather's doing.
